This drawing was done by the artist Frank Auerbach in the year of 1931. The media is charcoal and chalk on paper. I found it interesting because Auerbach drew, rubbed the drawing off, wiped it out, and then layered it with charcoal to create the volume for the head. The face planes are mostly erased to bring out the light gray background.
